Motivating Mondays: Go watch Morning Glory!

11 Apr

We are bringing you some new columns and Monday is getting a makeover! Why? Because it isn’t the most popular day. Workers have to go back to work, students have to go back to school, and trust funders have to go back to spending their great-grandparents money.

Life is tough. So get motivated!

I couldn’t resist making our first post about my new favorite movie, Morning Glory.  I saw it in the theatre with my roommate and we loved it so much, we threw a little viewing party when it came out on DVD.

Why? Because it spoke to us. And it was extremely inspiring.  Some of my friends could take it or leave it, but those of us that have been through some similar experiences, loved it. We related to everything Becky Fuller was going through in her quest to become a top news producer. She was constantly running from place to place, running in place, getting rejected, and moving forward.

For any of you who are dancers, actors, writers, entrepreneurs or just plain ambitious,  you understand. It’s the life of an ambitious or creative girl. There is no well paved path to get where you want to be, and no shortage of Practical Polly’s telling you should throw in the towel.  People say mean things to your face, as if you don’t have feelings. You get rejected and rejected and sometimes not only is every door slamming in your face, it’s slamming on your hand as you try to pry it open!

Morning Glory helps you through that anguish. When I am dealing with a setback and  just want to throw myself a pity party complete with streamers and Chex Mix , I ask myself,  “What would Becky Fuller do?!”  My roommate and I say it to each other all the time. And it always works.  It’s motivating to think about what someone else would do because sometimes I can’t count on what I would do.

If you read the above, I would throw myself a pity party of 1, send myself an evite, try to write a witty response on the evite, show up late to my party,  blame it on traffic, mindlessly eat everything at the buffet table and talk my own ear off about what a bad week I’m having.

Now what good is that going to do me?!

So get inspired by someone else and their struggles and success. Even if that someone is completely fictional.

And lastly, go watch the movie.  You don’t want to be late to your own pity party.

Hi Lauren! I’m so glad you liked it. Becky Fuller is a true inspiration. She makes running in heels look cool. Okay well no she doesn’t, but she does make it look doable. Thanks for reading!! 🙂
